February 8th- Rex Theater event

Our day today started pretty early. We had left the hotel at about 6:30am in order to go to the rex theater to set up for the upcoming GOTV event with Joe Biden. When we got there we helped the advance team set up chairs, signs, banners, media and so much more. It was amazing to be able to work an event from start to finish seeing every little thing that goes into making an event happen. I was tasked with being the count leader and to deal with any issues that may arise with the event. It was such an honor to be tasked with something as for me it was important no matter if I was getting coffee for people. The team saw us for our talents and abilities and actually put us to work and for that I am eternally grateful! As people started lining up we went around to each person and had them sign in, talk to them, ask questions and really have conversations with people rather than a simple thank you for coming the event will start soon. I met so many college students from Boston, Ohio and even Canada that came to New Hampshire to see the candidates and the Canadians to learn first hand about our political system. That was so amazing to see so many people from all over the world being civically engaged like these. This is something I think most of us can take for granted.

The interesting part of this event was that we were maxed out to capacity! If I am being honest we had more people in there that we really should have. People were waiting in the long line for hours in the cold only for a lot of them not to even be able to get inside so we sent them across the street to a taqueria where their lunch was paid for. The advance team had notified Biden's team about this and we were told (yes even us three volunteers) that he would first go across the street to the people that didn't get in the event to meet them and thank them! How cool is that?!?! That made a huge impression on me. Of course the second the media got wind that Biden was there they ran like a huge frenzy at him, so me and one of the security team guys saw that and ran towards Biden and blocked off the media from entering from the back door where we led Biden into. That was sooo cool! Aside from the fact that I got to push people and yell at them, it was an honor to ensure a safe entry for Biden, he even said thank you..... such a caring individual I have no words for that.
"peep his aviator glasses!"

After the event was over, we went back to the office where Biden came to speak to our volunteers and supporters. I helped a little boy get an autograph from Biden which just made my day being able to share a moment like that. We escorted Biden to the back part of the office while the rest of the volunteers went canvasing and people started leaving and then had him come back to the main office to address the media about his campaign and answer questions. Even writing all this I cant express my gratitude to the campaign team that gave us responsibilities as if we were part of the campaign team. They were some of the most amazing people I have met and am so thankful for them putting us to work like that and not just canvas or phone bank.
